The Value of Kindness.
In recent years, I have often wondered what has become of the value that my parents instilled in me from an early age.
I am talking about the value of kindness. Yes, I realise that talking about kindness today is like throwing pearls before swine.
It seems that no one knows its intrinsic value anymore.
Kindness is, in fact, a value that seems to be increasingly disappearing.
I am referring to one of the many positive nuances of human behaviour.
One of the most important.
Yet it seems to have been consigned to oblivion by many.
When I refer to human behaviour above, I am referring to the way we act and react towards objects, people and the surrounding environment.
Kindness is certainly inherent in positive action of this reaction.
This action is therefore a form of conscious or unconscious expression of great power of the individual or person, done voluntarily or involuntarily, linked to the personality type of the individual themselves.
Kindness is therefore behaviour that implies grace, courtesy, empathy, respect and benevolence towards others.
Certain scholars such as Drummond, Li & Fischer, Malti, Peplak, & Zhang have defined it as “the ability to treat ourselves and others with gentleness and compassion”. As such, it reflects an understanding of the high value and uniqueness of every life and the beauty of imperfection, as well as demanding feelings of respect for all people as the seat of values.
Knowing how to be kind to others always requires awareness, knowledge and the ability to manage one’s own emotions and those of others, together with the relationships that arise between them, as the scholar Malti argues.
Kindness is important because, once put into practice, it promotes social well-being such as
altruism and, in turn, altruism promotes support, help and volunteering.
We know very well how fundamental help and self-help among members of a species are to ensuring their survival.
Furthermore, the ability to connect with others through acts of kindness allows us to satisfy basic individual psychological needs for relationship and belonging.
Through the practice of kindness, people feel good and improve their mood and self-esteem.
Kindness also seems to reduce anxiety and fear, as argued by two great scholars, Rowlands & Curry.
They have demonstrated, based on several studies, that kindness has positive effects on psychological and social well-being.
Researchers at Oxford University recently discovered that when we are kind to both people we know and strangers, this behaviour can increase people’s levels of happiness.
They argued that simply observing others performing acts of kindness can make people happy.
This is especially true when everyone does so spontaneously, without being forced to do so, as another scholar named Aknin et al. has argued.
Therefore, acts of kindness are nothing more than behaviours or actions that involve helping, sharing or caring for others, behaviours that I hope will come back into fashion as soon as possible and be promoted in children from an early age.
Everyone would like to be treated kindly.
Therefore, it is hoped that it will be practised again so that everyone can enjoy its positive personal, psychological and social consequences.

~~~~~
(In italian Language).
DOVE SEI ANDATA GENTILEZZA.
Dove sei andata gentilezza?
Non ti incontro più da anni
e nessuno ti ha più nominata
e praticata.
E tu tolleranza, non andavi a braccetto con la solidarietà e la fratellanza, arricchendoti della diversità?
Dove è finito l’amore per i bambini, per il diverso
E la misericordia, la compassione verso il nostro prossimo?
Sembra essere sparita nel nulla; così, anche il valore della pace che sventolava alto, come vessillo dei popoli.
Ora c’e’ solo tanta nebbia attorno a noi, sembrerebbe quella di un mattino qualunque, di un giorno qualunque.
E’, purtroppo, la densa foschia dell’indifferenza, che sta invadendo, a poco a poco, i nostri cuori.
Poem by Concetta La Placa
WHERE HAVE YOU GONE, KINDNESS?
Where have you gone, kindness?
I haven’t seen you in years
and no one has mentioned you
or practised you.
And you, tolerance, didn’t you go hand in hand with solidarity and brotherhood, enriching yourself with diversity?
Where has the love for children, for those who are different, gone?
And mercy, compassion towards our neigh bours?
It seems to have vanished into thin air; so too has the value of peace, which flew high as the banner of the peoples.
Now there is only a thick fog around us, like that of any morning, any day.
Unfortunately, it is the dense mist of indifference that is gradually invading our hearts.
