TODAY I SOUGHT PEACE
Today I sought peace on the wrinkled earth
Destroyed by anger.
Today I sought peace in the eyelashes that trembled
Under the shadow of sadness.
Today I was looking for peace
Within a soul
That cried with the screams of a child.
And it flushed the waterfalls over oceans,
scorched from twilight in agony.
Today I sought peace in a world aged by pain
That bore on its shoulders hands, feet, eyes,
and withered faces.
Today I sought peace and whispered the truth
Of a world clothed in pain.
Today I sought peace with flowers in hand
Whose fragrance has been lost,
Directed at politics, states so wretched.
Today I sought peace with eyes dressed in hope
So that the rumblings and earthquakes
are not heard in the silent dusk.
Today I sought peace by telling war to stop!
Stop before the sad eyes of a child.
Stop, not any more, you have no time!
A new hope is reborn, a new land is emerging,
clothed in peace and light.
