Children Under Attack
They have wide eyes,
wider than the bombs,
searching for their mothers
through the cracks in the sky.
They run through shattered walls,
with their invisible balls
bouncing on the silence of other ruins
after the roar.
In their pockets they carry
not candies,
but shards of glass
that shine like rainbows
to the eyes of innocence.
A little girl
covers her doll’s eyes,
to shield her from that endless horror.
In that tiny gesture
lies infinity:
the love that endures,
even when the world falls apart.
